The HI97719 meter measures the magnesium hardness content in water samples in the 0.00 to 2.00 mg/L (ppm).
How to measure Magnesium in water:
- Select the Magnesium method using the procedure described in the METHOD SELECTION section. Note: If tutorial mode is disabled, follow the measurement procedure below. If the tutorial mode is enabled, press Measure and follow the messages on the screen.
- Use a 1 mL syringe and add 1 mL of HI93752A-Mg Magnesium Reagent A to the cuvette. Use a pipette to fill the cuvette, up to the 10 mL mark, with the HI93752B-Mg Magnesium Reagent B.
- Replace the plastic stopper and the cap. Invert several times to mix
- Insert the cuvette into the holder and ensure that the notch on the cap is positioned securely in the groove.
- Press Zero. The display will show “-0.0-” when the meter is zeroed and ready for measurement.
- Remove the cuvette.
- Use a second 1 mL syringe and add 0.5 mL of sample to the cuvette.
- Replace the plastic stopper and the cap. Invert several times to mix.
- Insert the cuvette into the holder and ensure that the notch on the cap is positioned securely in the groove.
- Press Read. The display will show a 15 second countdown prior to the measurement. To skip the timer, press Read twice. When the timer ends, the meter will perform the reading. The instrument displays the results in mg/L of magnesium (Mg2+).
